CLUBHOUSE & FACILITIES
The clubhouse provides a large bar, kitchen and social areas on the first floor. This is used extensively for various functions, especially for the sponsored luncheons that are held prior to every home league match of the 1st XV, to which all members are welcome. Accessible both from below and the bar area, is a wide balcony that overlooks and thus provides a preferential vantage point from which to view the 1st XV pitch. These facilities have become increasingly sought after and hired out for a wide variety of other events, both by club members (who are eligible for a special discounted rate) and others.
On the ground floor are the two original changing rooms, toilets for ladies and the disabled, plus various storage facilities. Additionally, a brand-new single-storey extension was completed in 2006 with substantial financial support from East Hampshire District Council, the Rugby Football Union and the Rugby Football Foundation. This contains six more superb changing rooms, all with their own integral shower areas, a large new gents’ toilet block and much expanded accommodation for referees and physiotherapy, making the facilities amongst the best in the region.
Additional to the four full-size pitches visible from the balcony to the west of the clubhouse, there are also a number of dedicated mini pitches, and a full-sized training pitch, complete with floodlights (which also cover smaller adjacent areas) to the other side of the clubhouse. Due to the fortunate composition of the land at Penns Fields, all the playing and training areas are extremely well drained and are thus still playable even when other clubs are in a less fortunate position due to inclement weather.
