Wet n Windy, another game Vs U.S.P
01 Nov 09 US Portsmouth 7 v 24 Petersfield
Due to the postal strike, leaves on the line and being waterlogged thisreport has finally reach the proper side of the Downs.
The game was played under quite adverse conditions; gale force winds
lashing rain and obscure rulings by the official in the middle. However
this did not dampen Fields commit to run the ball at every opportunity.
The forwards displayed good control in the contact area making the ball
available for Mikey Robbins to set the backs to fly. After a few atacks
through the middle by Jack G and Charlie P the pattern was set to
dominate the midfield and blitz US Portsmouth. Slick hands through
Robbins to Fraz Patience saw the flying Pickett hit the a perfect line
broke free and drew the defence perfectly to let Zac Hoffman to
sprint to the line unopposed. Zac converted his try with great aplumb.
Soon after Jack Glancy decided that he could make more dents into the
oppostion's defences.so he set sail solo with a 50m run to score. New
lad Joe Shallard continues to make big hits at the right time and Tom
Harrington enjioyed being back on the paddock with his support play and
stripping. Petersfield although lacking the height in the forwards they
are becoming a good mobile pack in regaining possession. and Jack G's
second try of the match was an example of the forwards stripping USP of
the ball and sped along the backline for Jack to score near the posts.
Zac added the extra points. Straight from the restart after the ball
sent back into the USP 22, Josh the "Hazzard" pounced on the slippery
ball spilled by the opposing winger to score. At half time the score
complimented US Portsmouth, 24-0 to P'field.
In the second with positional changes twith coach Patience wanting
everyone have achance to get muddy and very wet Field facing the gale
and a torrid penalty count did not score againand were only let USP a
soft try. The red defence was excellent throughtout the match.Mikey
Robbins had a commanding game at scrum half and the usual suspects of
the back row Bevan, Lumbard and Sydenham were busy getting dirty for the
team. A great team effort and very enjoyable to watch .
