SENIOR RUGBY
Petersfield RFC run with 4 teams in the senior setup. The 1st XV currently play in Hampshire 1 with the 2nd XV and 3rd XV competing in the Hampshire merit tables. Throughout the years, we have also put a formidable Vets side. The club welcomes all to any of our sides with our objective to get as many people out on the pitch on a Saturday as possible!
The squad trains on a Tuesday and Thursday evening, starting at 7:30. We are fortunate to have an excellent coaching team working under Director of Rugby Steve Pemberthy, including former Scotland and Lions international Derek White, former Royal Navy full back and Royal Marine PTI Scott Heffield, with player/coach Derek Eldridge. The club constantly tries to improve it's training and back up facilities, and currently has a large floodlit training area, and excellent changing and medical facilities in the recently completed clubhouse extension.
Our 1st and 2nd XVs work closely together as a single squad, with selection based on commitment and merit.
PRFC 1st XV are playing Hampshire Division One this season. After several seasons in London Division 4 SW, the Club is determined that it's 1st XV should regain it's London Division status as quickly as possible. The 2nd XV compete in the Hampshire RFU Senior Merit Table.
1st XV skipper Ian Palmer epitomises the current senior squad, a young player who has risen through the club's junior sides to assume the role of captain at the age of just 24. He leads a young squad, with an average age under 25. The 1st XV Head Coach Derek Eldridge, is a former Hampshire County player and past 1st XV captain.
