Petersfield Under 10’s earn medals at County Tournament
Petersfield battled hard to become Runners Up in the Plate Final at the Under 10’s County Tournament at Basingstoke on Sunday. The entire squad was used to great effect in the four pool games and three knockout rounds. First up was Romsey Wasps: in a close fought match Romsey scored the only try of the match. Great tackling from Oiliver Crosdil and fine scrummaging from Ollie Belcher, Charlie Cains and Isaac Hall kept the game alive till the last. Petersfield got into their stride during the next match and beat United Services Portsmouth two tries to one. George Ford and Milo Martin again won Petersfield lots of good ball and scrum half Crispin Glancy lit the taper for the backs to spark into life. A powerful desire to win carried the team into the next pool game v Vectis. Full back George Dodds broke from the Petersfield try line to set up a great period of attacking play. Kit Claasen as scrum half delivered a pin-point pass to Angus Rushin who scored the decisive try: Petersfield won three tries to one. The final pool game was against Tournament favourites, the home team, Basingstoke. Although Fin Starling set up the first try for Petersfield, Basingstoke won four tries to one. The quarter final drew Tottonians. Tom Grange made some great breaks down the wing and Harry Bell scored the try of the Tournament with a forty metre dash through the entire Tottonian defence. Petersfield held on for victory: three tries to two. New Milton were the opponents for the Semi and the game was a titanic battle, Petersfield scored the first try then defended bravely as New Milton surged for a push-over try. Nico Caines rallied the forwards to shove New Milton back away from danger. In the second half New Milton were awarded a controversial try to tie the match one-a-piece. Petersfield progressed to the final on number of tries scored in the pool stage. And so to the Final Showdown against Fordingbridge. The game was neck and neck for the first quarter and Petersfield had the best chance with a superb forward drive. A loose ball went to Fordingbridge who escaped with a lucky breakaway try. Petersfield battled hard, but Fordingbridge ended up deserved winners scoring three further tries.LOOKING AHEAD
