YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
The Youth Section is run totally by volunteers, who fulfil many roles at varying levels of commitment.
The Hampshire RFU runs several levels of coaching and refereeing courses. Each age group within the Youth Section has at least one qualified coach, who has successfully attended an intensive weekend of practical and written work on coaching and laws of the game. Qualified referees are not as well represented, however each age group is encouraged to have at least one qualified referee within its midst.
Petersfield RFC’s Youth Section has a coaching co-coordinator (see contacts list) whose role is to enable volunteers to attend coaching and refereeing courses. The cost of these courses is increasing and the club’s priority is to ensure that committed coaches are properly qualified.
Coaches and referees are the most visible of volunteers, however there are many roles in the background that are equally important and parents are actively encouraged to contribute. Each age group needs a team manager to co-ordinate the activities of the age group. The Youth Section also requires volunteer first aiders, helpers in the club shop and kitchen on match days. When the club hosts tournaments it is a case of all hands on deck to ensure that the children enjoy the day.
All volunteers who come into contact with the children on a regular basis are CRB checked as a matter of course.
